I'm sure that's just supposed to be a farmer's or gardener's tan from being outdoors so much...

(literally an argument I've heard for why Sam is described as being "brown")

That's a very likely explanation for Sam's brown hands, but Tom's brown toes would depend on how often Tom went about barefoot. Paddling in rivers and streams, yes, but skipping and hopping through the woods requires boots.

You said that so confidently yet they never wear shoes that’s why they’re feet were so hairy

Tom Bombadil was not a hobbit, and so didn't have hairy feet like hobbits do.

He is also described as usually wearing boots.

But in the poem "Once Upon A Time" Tolkien wrote:

"Tom was there without boot or shoe,

with moonshine wetting his big brown toes:

once upon a time, the story goes."

FYI hobbits do wear boots on occasion.

See Tolkien's painting "Bilbo Woke Up With the Early Sun in His Eyes".

Bilbo is wearing boots!

He is also wearing boots in Tolkien's drawing of him greeting Smaug.

There's also the fact Sam packed "woolen hose" for the Fellowship's journey and no less of an authority than Corey Olsen "The Tolkien Professor" agrees with me that

that means the hobbits also packed boots so they could tramp in the snow without getting frostbite. Remember that Frodo was astonished at how Legolas was only wearing light shoes in the snow!

I just saw this quote today for the first time. Watched both seasons of RoP.

I don’t know how you’re possibly attempting to shoehorn people misquoting Tolkien into a defense of this show. They’re entirely independent events and have nothing to do with each other. People misquote The Gladiator and The Dark Knight all the time, and those are phenomenal pieces of media and people misquoting it has no bearing on the quality of it or even the person misquoting’s perception of it.

Rings of Power is not a terrible piece of Lord of the Rings media. It is an absolutely abysmal piece of tv removed 100% from the Lord of the Rings universe. The fact they dumped feces all over their sources material and then steamrolled it over and over and over again so that you didn’t know where LOTR started and feces ended was just a cherry on top making this one of the worst pieces of media that has ever been created.

Characters could not keep motivations straight inside on ONE scene. I.e. Sauron needs rings. Says his one goal is to get rings. Conveniently, has the guy who can make the rings right in front of him. Also, that guy knows where the rings went. What does Sauron do? Makes an ominous statement about how he can keep him alive and there are things worse than death… then immediately flies off the handle and kills the one guy that can provide what he is looking for.

That is plainly terrible writing. Doesn’t matter if it is in Scooby Doo or War and Peace. Doesn’t matter if there is source material or not. That is abysmal writing.

How about just general sense making? Absolutely not, I.e. the battle of Eregion one of the worst battle scenes I have seen in any film or tv show. First, catapult/trebuchet a mountain…. To dam a river…. To clear a riverbed…. To move siege equipment across to lay siege on a city. If any part of that series didn’t immediately jar you out of the story, we are just a different type of person. “Fantasy” stories create rules of their universe and the story has to abide by those rules. Not one part of that even makes an ounce of sense in our world. And no part of that makes any sense in the fantasy world THE SHOW created (not LOTR generally). Further, Elrond cavalry charge… to stop thousands of cavalry in an instant… to then TAKE THE CAVALRY INTO CLOSE TREES IN A FORREST. What in the utter fuck? I am not military expert. My knowledge basically amounts to playing Age of Empires as a kid. And even my dumb ass knows that cavalry is an asset in open plains, especially in a charge and an actual liability in close trees where horses cannot maneuver, and a rider cannot spur the horses to even trot without hitting branches. My dumb ass wouldn’t make such an idiotic military decision, a thousands of years old genius of a master elven race military commander should never make that decision. If that didn’t jar you from the story, we are just different types of people.

Consistency of plot/world. RoP fails again. Again to Sauron and Celebrimbor. Sauron has Celebrimbor in some illusion he created in his head during the siege on Eregion so that Celebrimbor will make the rings he wants so desperately. When Celebrimbor breaks out of the illusion, the camera pans across his forge… and the forge is IN RUINS. Destroyed in the siege. WHAT IN THE UTTER FUCK WAS CELEBRIMBOR DOING IN THE ILLUSION?? What was Sauron doing?? The entire point of the illusion was to make the rings, but the entire forge was destroyed. Was Celebrimbor just walking in circles talking to himself? Makes zero sense. The illusion was in his mind, they painstakingly make that clear in the show. So if the entire forge was broken in reality what was he doing? Then Sauron sees Celembrimbor is out of the illusion… and basically handcuffs him to his forge, within arms reach of all of his tools. HES A MASTER ELVEN SMITH, the best the world has ever seen. So good he can make stuff even Sauron can’t. And we are supposed to believe he cannot get out of handcuffs in his own forge with all his tools at hand? That is again idiotic writing.

This is all pretty much from one episode. Or maybe pieces of two. I wrote in notes pages and pages of notes on each episode every single thing that was driving me insane because I was texting my friends while watching and they basically got to the point of “dude, please fucking stop. The show sucks, we get it”. So I would just rage write notes to myself. I’d say 95% of them have nothing to do with lore, just absolutely abysmal writing. Didn’t even get to the dwarves or humans. But one quick one:

Sauron gives elves rings. Elves figure it out, Eregion is under siege. They know the rings are corrupting. Elrond goes to the dwarves for help. Durin tells Elrond he’s plotting a violent coup on his father. Okay, so the elves are elves. They know they’re elves. They’re wise, super intelligent, basically immortal pure beings. That’s not past lore, that is also how they’re portrayed in the show. Elves have had the rings for a bit of time (show spends no effort distinguishing minutes from literally months, so no way to tell how much time, but objectively more), and in that time Elrond is worried the rings corrupted Celebrimbor such that Eregion is in danger. Elrond goes to his friend, whose father has had a ring for all of two seconds, and the first thing the friend says is he is plotting a coup of his dad. His friend who throughout the entirety of the show so far has shown nothing but respect and admiration for his dad, and his friend who Elrond himself holds in high esteem and looks fondly upon… Eregion is susceptible to outside forces and weakened. Khazad-dum is preparing an internal coup. DOESNT CROSS ELRONDS MIND MAYBE SOMETHING BIGGER IS HAPPENING HERE?! Elrond doesn’t have the ring. Can’t even argue Elrond is being corrupted. He still asks for the dwarves help. It’s the (horrible analogy but riding with it) equivalent of your rich friend saying “Hey, my old boss left and I just got a new one at work. I do not think we are getting along and I’m worried about my job security”. You reply, “oh man, that sucks. I just got fired yesterday and worried about making rent”. And your rich friend responding to that with “any chance you could spare some funds? If something bad does happen I want to be sure I’m alright”.

For the nth time. It is just abysmal writing. It either makes Elrond a complete idiot or a complete asshole. And it makes Durin either a complete idiot or an absolute ignoramus. Maybe not this one instance, but the repetitive nature of the idiotic dialogue and the idiotic decisions makes completely terrible characters that are either mind numbingly stupid or so utterly inconsistent with their morals and priorities that they are entirely unconvincing as real people/things that can be related to.

Again, going to point out nothing I have mentioned is at all lore related. It is just terrible writing. Also again, going to point out my critiques so far span like 2 episodes of 2 seasons, span like 5% of my critiques of each of those episodes, and if you want more I can start sending in my rambling notes on each episode. They could basically be compiled into a short book at this point. And probably be read more coherently than this shit show you are trying to defend.

Very last point. LOTRs is a more beloved series than potentially any other in the world. If Amazon made a great product Star Wars would not even hold a candle to it. Harry Potter would struggle to compete with it. It has held a fandom for over 2 decades longer than Star Wars with about 1/20th the media holding them over between installments. It has a universe that was built painstakingly over decades and decades that has literally hundreds of stories that could be mined for individual tv shows and movies. I just googled "history of middle earth" and saw some poor asshole made a 8hr youtube video on the subject AND IT HAS TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VIEWS. A god damn 8hr history of a fantasy land. That isnt 8hrs of fan fiction. Or 8hrs of reviews. That is 8hrs just recounting the HISTORY of this world Tolkein created. It is basically an academic endeavor. Not a piece of content for entertainment. People LOVE this IP. They absolutely adore it. They going fucking insane for it.

If this show was even a "C" in quality it would have millions of people clamoring for it. Amazon could make a hundred spinoffs and be set forever. Think of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. When those were released they were considered subpar. That was decades ago and there are still millions of fans waiting on the new installment. With IP this beloved "average" is more than enough. The fans just want to engage with the world and be immersed in it. Theyll take the subpar in stride and hope

for better. Rings of Power has 37% of people who started the show finish it. THAT IS ALL THE PROOF YOU NEED. No one wants to even finish this abomination. People will watch 10 seasons of something average. I could list 100 different shows that prove that point. No one (about 1/3rd) is watching this show. That is not internet trolls. That is not “incels in their basement”’s doing. That is nothing more or less than the show being terrible. And I would say terrible is a much better review than it deserves. Terrible writing. Terrible character development. Terrible morals or shifting morals or moral ambiguity. Terrible plot that is going nowhere. Confused characters that have no purpose. Too many characters that are only there to serve the plot but cut out no reason otherwise for themselves to exist. Stupid decision making. Stupid dynamics of the world in the world that is built in the show. Stupid everything. The show is god damn awful.

And no matter how much you point out idiots misusing a quote is not going to change how awful this show is.

Possibly the funniest part is if you’re still writing these, it means you’re still writing to the 37% remaining. And by my empirical evidence the only people still watching are the super fans who just need more LOTRs content at any cost. Hoping beyond hope that it gets better. Anyone who is just a casual fan gave up long ago because it’s awful. And meanwhile you’re criticizing the super fans for caring, when the only people left lending any support at all are the super fans. Even if they critique it for sucking at every opportunity, they’re the only ones still tuning in to watch. And if there is any hope for the show to continue for more seasons it is because the super fans will watch no matter the cost. Even if watching just drives them insane and they write terrible stuff online. They are still the ones watching and lending support to Amazons bottom line.

also writing is soulless but not once are there happy moments in the story

like in the hobbit, i dont care eabout transgender who wrote this blog, i just wanted to say my opinion if anyone saw my comment personally, because i know the OP does. not. care. and is obsessive individiual.

original hobbit and lotr had lots of happy moments and showed us the world in light that gave us reasson to persevere, it was inspiring literature but this is just nonsense, soulless progress of the story that was simply meant as exposition for the already written movie. what's the point of writing it? money. and so with money it is only soulless coal remaiend
