This happens all the time: I publish a comprehensive interview compilation on Sunday, or whenever, and a few days later another one shows up. Or in this case, a whole bunch 🤣 Because while my interview compilation from last week was very comprehensive, it turns out it was not complete; not by a long shot. I first realized this when a solo interview Morfydd gave to The Direct Extras showed up on Youtube about an hour after I published last week’s article, so I quietly slipped it into that article. But it turns out that was just the tip of the iceberg. Indeed, this article may be even longer and contain more content than last weeks. So with that said, let’s get into it.
A bit of news first, to kind of start us off. First of all, this whole press tour is because this is the start of awards season, and Rings of Power has already started collecting awards nominations. Two in particular were highlighted on the show’s social media:
Then, in keeping with the show’s “technical” aspects always winning high marks, Bear McCreary’s score for Season 2 was highlighted by IndieWire as one of the best TV scores of the year. And looking broader and more big picture, the show as a whole was named to the lists of Empire, GamesRadar, and Nerdist’s top TV shows of the year. It even made #1 on the second of those, and #4 on the first; no bad thing considering some of the competition, especially Shogun.
With that news out of the way, we can finally get into the “meat and potatoes” of this article. As part of being named GamesRadar’s TV show of the year, McPayne sat down with Fay Watson for the following text interview. “The Rings of Power showrunners on being named GamesRadar+'s TV Show of 2024, introducing a Lord of the Rings legend in season 2, and an update on season 3”
In keeping with that type of interview, we also have on they gave to Rotem Rustak of Nerdist: “THE RINGS OF POWER Showrunners Talk Time Skips in Season 3 and Beyond, Celeborn, Celebrían, and Sauron Not Yet Knowing How to Forge the One Ring.”
From CinemaBlend: “I Can’t Stop Thinking About Sauron Crying In Rings Of Power’s Finale. So, I Asked Charlie Vickers, Morfydd Clark And The Showrunners Why It Happened.”
And finally, a two-parter with Carly Lane of Collider: “Was There Ever a Plan for an Earlier Haladriel Scene in 'The Rings of Power' Season 2?” and “‘There's Been a Vibe There’: This Elendil/Míriel Scene in 'The Rings of Power' Season 1 Inspired Their Season 2 Romance”
And of course, we have our fair share of video interviews with the showrunners.

But you probably didn’t come here to hear McPayne talk. You came here for more of the chaotic Morfydd/Charlie goodness that comes whenever the two of them sit down for a joint interview together. And we have plenty of those. Not as many as we did for “California Dreamin’” last week, but still fun, and many of these have been quite insightful.

We also have a text interview with the two of them with Collider’s Carly Lane: How Morfydd Clark and Charlie Vickers Approached Their Big Fight in 'The Rings of Power' Season 2
To round us off, here are a couple of solo interviews that Morfydd gave. First, a text one with Rotem Rustak from Nerdist: Morfydd Clark Dives Into Galadriel & Adar’s Bond, Sauron’s Lasting Hurt, TROP TikTok and All Things THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2
Then, a two-part interview with Carly Lane from Collider:
How That Scene With Adar Changed Galadriel Forever in 'The Rings of Power' Season 2
Morfydd Clark on How Galadriel "Redeems" Herself in 'The Rings of Power' Season 2
And last but certainly not least, with The Direct Extras, the interview that started this all. As I mentioned in the beginning, I kind of slipped it into last week’s compilation towards the end since it dropped only about an hour after I published, but it’s a really good one and deserves to be highlighted again; with so many more joint interviews with her and Charlie, this solo one kind of slipped under the radar.
Hopefully, that’s the end of it. Between all the interviews that have aired these past two weeks, I think we’ve gained some wonderful insights into the creative process for the showrunners and the actors who play the Great Enemy of the Second Age and his “chief obstacle and adversary.” I believe that talking to the writers and actors is the best way to really learn about the characters and their stories; even a gifted director like Charlotte Brandstrom is honestly just moving these pieces around on a chessboard. To learn about this particular Black King and White Queen, what drives them and what we can expect from them in future seasons Morfydd, Charlie, and McPayne are the ones we really need to talk to. And we have gotten plenty from them. Thank you Morfydd, Charlie and McPayne. Have a good Christmas holiday with family and friends, and good luck as awards season continues 😊
